Intense clashes: Israel reveals new strikes, Iran pins its hopes on Trump – here’s the message to the U.S.

Tensions in the Middle East are escalating into a new critical phase as the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of a direct attack on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant. Speaking before the UN Security Council, Grossi said that a strike on the plant would cause “a very high release of radioactivity,” affecting populations hundreds of kilometers away.

The Bushehr plant, located in southern Iran, is fully operational and holds thousands of kilograms of nuclear material. Its geographical location makes it closer to the capitals of some U.S.-allied countries in the region than to Tehran itself. According to Grossi, several regional states have already contacted the IAEA to express their deep concern over the risks of an attack and its potential fallout.

He emphasized that even disabling the plant’s power supply could lead to a reactor core meltdown, with catastrophic radioactive consequences. In such a scenario, mass evacuations, iodine treatments, and strict food safety controls would likely be necessary.

Meanwhile, Iran is adjusting its geopolitical posture, increasingly banking on the possibility of Donald Trump winning the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Senior Iranian officials have sent signals that a new administration in Washington might pave the way for renewed negotiations and sanctions relief.

The rising hostilities between Israel and Iran risk triggering not only military conflict but also a nuclear catastrophe if Bushehr is targeted. The IAEA’s warnings are a clear call for immediate restraint and diplomacy. While Iran places its hopes on a political shift in Washington, the situation on the ground remains volatile and fraught with danger.
