Seven Israeli Soldiers Killed in Gaza After Armored Vehicle Hit by Bomb Blast

A deadly incident in southern Gaza has left seven Israeli soldiers dead after their armored vehicle was destroyed by a powerful explosion during military operations in the Khan Younis area.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the soldiers were riding in a Puma combat engineering vehicle—a heavily armored unit used for battlefield mobility—when it was struck by an explosive device planted along their path. The explosion ignited a fire inside the vehicle, trapping the soldiers inside. Despite rescue attempts, all personnel onboard perished.

Six of the fallen soldiers have been officially identified:

  • Lt. Matan Shai Yashinovski, 21, from Kfar Yona
  • Staff Sgt. Ronel Ben-Moshe, 20, from Rehovot
  • Staff Sgt. Niv Radia, 20, from Elyakhin
  • Sgt. Ronen Shapiro, 19, from Mazkeret Batya
  • Sgt. Shahar Manoav, 21, from Ashkelon
  • Sgt. Maayan Baruch Pearlstein, 20, from Eshhar

The name of the seventh soldier has not yet been released, pending notification of the family.

All seven belonged to the IDF’s 605th Combat Engineering Battalion.

A preliminary military investigation suggests that a Palestinian militant operative planted the bomb, which directly hit the vehicle as it moved through the Khan Younis region—a hotspot in the ongoing war.

In a separate event nearby, two more soldiers from the same unit were wounded by an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) attack. One is reported to be in serious condition, while the other sustained lighter injuries.

This tragic event in Khan Younis highlights the persistent volatility and dangers of urban warfare in Gaza. Despite technological superiority, Israel’s ground forces remain highly vulnerable to guerilla tactics and IEDs in densely populated zones. The use of anti-vehicle explosives by militant groups signals a renewed phase of asymmetrical warfare—where high-tech forces are challenged by low-cost, high-impact attacks.

The targeted killing of an entire vehicle crew is a stark reminder of the human cost of prolonged conflict. As international attention momentarily shifts toward diplomatic negotiations, the battleground remains lethal. These losses could amplify domestic pressure within Israel to reassess the effectiveness and risks of its continued military engagement inside Gaza.

Furthermore, the psychological impact on IDF troops operating in such conditions—under constant threat of hidden explosives—could alter the army’s tactics in future incursions. For the militants, such a successful strike carries both strategic and symbolic weight, reinforcing their message of resistance and reshaping battlefield dynamics.

As the war continues with no ceasefire in sight, the incident underscores the reality that every kilometer gained comes at a staggering human cost—on both sides.
