6 Kg of Heroin Found at Kapshticë Border, Four Police Officers Arrested

A serious case of drug trafficking has been uncovered during a police oversight operation at the Kapshticë border crossing in southeastern Albania. The Anti-Corruption and Internal Affairs Police Surveillance Agency (AMP) led the operation, which resulted in the seizure of 6 kilograms of heroin hidden inside a vehicle heading toward Greece.

According to official sources, the drugs were concealed in various parts of the vehicle using sophisticated methods to evade detection. However, due to a detailed search by AMP agents, the illegal cargo was discovered and confiscated.

The driver of the vehicle was immediately arrested on charges of international drug trafficking. However, the case took an even darker turn when four border police officers stationed at Kapshticë were also arrested. They are suspected of having facilitated the illegal transport of the heroin through the checkpoint by abusing their official position.

The four officers, tasked with ensuring the legality and security of border operations, are now under criminal investigation for “abuse of office,” a charge which under Albanian criminal law can carry heavy penalties, especially when linked to serious crimes such as drug trafficking.

Authorities believe this may not be an isolated incident. AMP has launched a broader investigation to determine whether this case is part of a larger network involving state officials and criminal elements. Further developments are expected as investigations continue in the coming days.
