North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly denounced women undergoing breast augmentation procedures, describing them as acts of “anti-socialist behavior” that contradict the moral and cultural principles of the country.
According to reports from defectors and state media monitoring outlets, Kim made the remarks during a closed session with senior officials, expressing concern over what he called “the growing influence of Western beauty standards.”
“Cosmetic vanity has no place in a socialist society,” Kim allegedly stated. “True beauty lies in loyalty, discipline, and devotion to the nation — not in artificial alteration.”
State-controlled outlets have previously issued similar warnings, cautioning citizens against adopting Western trends, such as colored hair, plastic surgery, and luxury fashion. Officials claim such behaviors “weaken revolutionary spirit” and promote “individualism over collective unity.”
Analysts say this statement is part of Kim’s broader campaign to enforce social discipline, particularly among young women in urban areas, as foreign media and pop culture continue to influence fashion and lifestyle trends across North Korea’s borders.
