UN Security Council to Meet on Iran Amid Israeli Strikes, Netanyahu in Talks with Global Leaders

The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to convene today, June 13, to address the escalating situation in Iran following recent airstrikes carried out by Israel. Diplomatic sources confirmed that the meeting was called in response to growing international concern over a potential regional escalation in the Middle East.

At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold a series of high-level phone calls with global leaders. According to his office, Netanyahu will speak today with former U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as with the United Kingdom’s newly elected Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

CBS News also reported that Trump has already held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Macron, and Starmer held a joint call to discuss the ongoing situation and its wider geopolitical implications.

A spokesperson for the German government confirmed that the three leaders agreed to “remain in close contact” in the coming days to coordinate their countries’ positions and diplomatic efforts.

The crisis in the Middle East is entering a critical diplomatic phase, as international actors increase efforts to prevent a broader conflict. The UN Security Council’s emergency session is expected to outline possible steps to de-escalate tensions and stabilize the region.
