Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Strikes Iran, Jolts City of Qom

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Iran, shaking the city of Qom and surrounding areas. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake’s epicenter was located in Semnan Province, not far from Qom—one of the country’s most populous and religiously significant cities.

Local authorities and reports indicate that there have been no casualties or major damages reported so far. However, the tremor caused panic among residents, prompting many to flee their homes and gather in open spaces for safety.

Tremors were also felt in nearby cities, but no serious consequences have been reported at this time. Emergency teams have been deployed to assess the situation and provide support in case of aftershocks or hidden damages.

Iran is no stranger to earthquakes due to its position in one of the world’s most seismically active zones. While this quake did not result in tragedy, it serves as a reminder of the constant seismic threat and the importance of strong infrastructure, preparedness, and rapid emergency response to mitigate future risks.
