In a remarkable scientific breakthrough, researchers in the UK have uncovered a new species of dinosaur, shedding light on a lesser-known part of prehistoric life. Named Enigmacursor mollyborthwickae, this dinosaur lived approximately 150 million years ago and was similar in size to a modern-day Labrador dog.
The discovery was made by scientists at the Natural History Museum in London. According to paleontologist Paul Barrett, the dinosaur had unusually long hind legs, indicating it was a fast runner. Despite its small size and herbivorous nature, it displayed unique features never before seen in similar species.
Its well-preserved skeleton will go on display to the public starting June 26, offering museum-goers a rare glimpse into a prehistoric world far removed from ours.
“These small herbivorous dinosaurs are incredibly rare to find,” said Barrett. He also added that bone analysis suggests this particular dinosaur may not have reached full maturity, opening the door for future discoveries regarding the growth and life stages of smaller dinosaur species.
The discovery of Enigmacursor mollyborthwickae demonstrates how much remains hidden in Earth’s deep past. Its unique anatomical features and rapid movement abilities challenge prior assumptions about small dinosaurs.
