The ongoing escalation between Israel and Iran could soon spiral into a broader regional conflict, international experts are warning. Following Israel’s massive airstrike campaign against Iranian targets, concerns are rising over a potentially catastrophic chain reaction.
Hicheme Lehmici, Secretary of the Geneva International Peace Research Institute (GIPRI) and lecturer at the Swiss UMEF University Institute of Applied Sciences, told the Russian news agency TASS that Israel appears to be intensifying its attacks without any visible attempt to de-escalate.
“We are witnessing a deliberate path toward a full-scale war between Israel and Iran. Once that begins, U.S. involvement will be almost inevitable,” Lehmici stated. He emphasized the real possibility of an “apocalyptic scenario” if tensions continue to rise.
“If Iran resists effectively, we may see the conflict become regionalized, engulfing countries from Israel to Iran, including Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and possibly the Gulf states,” the expert warned.
His comments came shortly after Israel launched Operation Rising Lion during the night of June 13. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), over 200 fighter jets struck more than 100 targets in Iran, including nuclear-related facilities.
