Kallas: Iran Must Never Possess Nuclear Weapons

In a firm and unequivocal statement, the European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has declared that Iran must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. Speaking amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Kallas emphasized the urgency of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation.

“We all agree that Iran must never have nuclear weapons. It is urgent to de-escalate the situation. The EU will play its role in the diplomatic efforts,” she said.

Her comments come at a time when Iran is reportedly accelerating its nuclear program, alarming many Western governments and regional actors. While Iran continues to insist that its nuclear ambitions are strictly peaceful, the lack of full transparency and its enrichment activities beyond the limits of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have raised red flags in European and American circles.

Kallas’s remarks reflect a unified European stance that echoes previous warnings issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other global institutions. The European Union, historically a key mediator in the Iran nuclear talks, is once again positioning itself as a central player in avoiding further conflict.

Diplomats warn that any miscalculation in the region could lead to a broader escalation involving not only Iran and Israel but also other global powers. The EU, under Kallas’s leadership, is expected to intensify its behind-the-scenes diplomatic engagements to push for renewed negotiations and restraint from all sides.

With a volatile regional climate and the growing risk of military confrontation, voices like Kallas’s are seen as critical to preventing a dangerous new chapter in global security threats.
