A special bond with cats
In the heart of Islamic tradition, cats hold a special place thanks to the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). One of the most famous stories is about his beloved cat Muezza. Once, while performing ablution, the Prophet’s cat lay on his clothes, and he gently cut off the sleeve of his garment rather than disturb her. This act shows his kindness and mercy towards all of Allah’s creatures.
Mercy and care for animals – a divine command
In many hadiths, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasizes the importance of mercy towards animals:
“Whoever is kind to the creatures of Allah, Allah will be kind to him.” (Sahih Muslim)
This message is fundamental: treat animals with respect and love because they are Allah’s creations deserving our care.
Why cats?
Cats are clean, quiet, and beloved creatures. In the Prophet’s time, they were trusted companions and helped keep homes clean by controlling mice and insects.
Prophet Muhammad regarded cats as a symbol of cleanliness and was very careful in treating them.
Lessons for us today
In today’s world, where animals are often mistreated, the Prophet’s teachings on kindness to animals are more relevant than ever. Caring for cats is not just a moral duty but a religious obligation.
Loving cats and treating them with respect is a way to reflect the love and mercy Allah commands us to have for His creatures.
Conclusion
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) left us a powerful message: mercy and love for cats and animals in general are part of faith and human conduct. Let us learn from his example and love cats wholeheartedly as he taught us
