Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that the key to ending the violence in Gaza lies in Washington’s hands, not in international organizations. In a statement to Turkish media outlet Anadolu, Erdogan praised the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump for initiating a new 60-day temporary ceasefire plan currently under discussion.
“Thanks to President Trump’s initiatives, a temporary 60-day ceasefire plan is now on the negotiation table,” Erdogan said.
He stressed that the United States’ pressure on Israel is decisive, and that no meaningful breakthrough can happen unless Washington intensifies its diplomatic leverage. Erdogan also referenced the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel, calling it a “window of opportunity” for Gaza.
“Hamas has repeatedly shown willingness for a solution. But Israel’s consistent violations of previous ceasefires have blocked any return to calm,” he added.
According to the Turkish leader, a robust negotiation platform is necessary—one that includes enforceable guarantees ensuring Israel respects any future agreement.

Erdogan’s comments represent a calculated diplomatic move. By openly thanking President Trump, he aligns himself with current U.S. leadership while simultaneously framing Israel as the primary obstacle to peace.
This approach positions Turkey as a potential mediator in the ongoing Gaza crisis. After a period of relative silence on the issue, Erdogan is clearly aiming to reclaim Turkey’s traditional role as a leading voice for the Palestinian cause.
By shifting the narrative away from Hamas and toward Israel’s accountability, Erdogan is also appealing to broader international sentiment—especially in countries where public opinion has turned sharply against Israeli military actions.
His insistence on “guarantees” and a strong negotiation platform signals that Ankara may be preparing to play a more active role in shaping the outcome of any future agreement, not merely commenting from the sidelines.
