Court blocks Trump’s ban on foreign students at Harvard

A federal judge in Boston on Thursday temporarily blocked President Donald Trump from banning foreign nationals who wish to study or participate in exchange programs at Harvard University from entering the United States.

With a two-page temporary restraining order issued to Harvard, District Judge Allison Burroughs prevented the enforcement of Trump’s directive while the case undergoes further review, Reuters reported.

The judge ruled that Trump’s order to bar foreign students from entering the U.S. to study at Harvard for the next six months would cause “immediate and irreparable harm” before courts could properly evaluate the case.

The same judge had blocked the implementation of another Trump order last month, which prohibited Harvard from enrolling foreign students, who make up more than a quarter of the institution’s entire student body.

Earlier on Thursday, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson called Harvard “a hub for anti-American, anti-Semitic, and pro-terrorist agitators,” claims the university has previously denied.

“Harvard’s conduct has endangered the integrity of the entire student and exchange visa system and risks compromising national security. Now, it must face the consequences of its actions,” Jackson said in a statement.

Harvard maintains that the Trump administration is retaliating for the university’s refusal to comply with demands to control its governance, curriculum, and the ideology of its faculties and students.
