Gaza City — Three emergency medical workers and a journalist were killed on Monday in Israeli airstrikes targeting the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, according to reports from Palestinian media outlets, including the Shehab News Agency, which is affiliated with Hamas.
The medics were reportedly responding to calls for help and attempting to evacuate injured civilians and recover bodies from the rubble when they were struck. The journalist was also killed while covering the aftermath of ongoing military operations in the area.
The Israeli military has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said their troops continued operations across the Gaza Strip targeting what they described as “terrorist organizations.”
The conflict, which erupted on October 7, 2023, began when Hamas-led militants launched a surprise attack on southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people — the majority of whom were civilians — and taking approximately 251 hostages.
Since the onset of Israel’s retaliatory offensive, more than 54,927 Palestinians have been killed, most of them civilians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
This incident adds to the mounting toll on humanitarian workers and journalists in the conflict, as calls for greater protection of civilians and medical personnel intensify.
